I think, Randy Orton, he has obviously been around a long time, but I think Randy Orton can be a terrific heel.
One day, my youngest uncle – the other one who was first to go to college, Randy – and I were sitting out on the front porch. And he was brilliant. He ended up – he just retired from Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas.
A lot of people don’t realize this, but probably the one person that gets made fun of in ‘South Park’ more than anybody is my dad. Stan’s father, Randy – my dad’s name is Randy – that’s my drawing of my dad; that’s me doing my dad’s voice. That is just my dad. Even Stan’s last name, Marsh, was my dad’s stepfather’s name.
I do duets with folks like Randy Goodman, Aaron Neville, Bryan Adams, people like that.
I think Alison Krauss is one of the most amazing singers ever. As a songwriter – this is gonna sound cheesy – I love Randy Newman. And my mom passed on a love of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. At one point I was so into the Indigo Girls, just like I was so into the Dixie Chicks, those female harmonies.
As for personality, without a doubt, my favorite of all time is Macho Man Randy Savage.
Do you want to talk about matches that matter? Randy Orton can go out there, John Cena can go out there, AJ Styles can go out there and put together matches that matter and not have to do silly dives because they don’t know how to work.
When Jack Swagger copies my Ankle Lock and Randy Orton does my Angle Slam, it’s disrespectful. I didn’t come up with the Ankle Lock; Ken Shamrock came up with the Ankle Lock, but I waited until he retired to do the Ankle Lock.
So many of us can recall growing up with Gene Okerlund as the voice of our childhoods while interviewing the likes of Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, Sting, and others.
It was a very real thing, not a storyline thing when Randy Orton didn’t want me to get to a certain point in WWE.
It’s a really subtle kind of thing. It makes me feel like Randy Harrison is not a human being to them.
I remember in the ’80s, Randy Travis was my guy. He’s the reason I moved to Nashville, and I just loved him. But at some point when he was winning everything, you find yourself pulling for other people.
Randy Johnson had a tell. If he thought you knew what was coming, he would hit you. So that was his tell. That’s probably, that’s a tell. That’s a tell from Randy Johnson. He’d hit you, happily.
I knew Randy right from day one when he started wrestling. I helped him put together that image of the Macho Man. He had a way about him. He grabbed your attention through his voice. That allowed him to present himself as a type of a character.
I wanted to be part of Jordan Brand, because I saw Randy Moss, my favorite receiver, wearing Jordans when I was younger. I wanted to do everything like Randy.
Great musicians, you don’t just hear them, you feel them. When I listen to Randy Rhoads, I feel every note. I learned a lot from him.
I keep changing my stuff. I used to play through a Marshall JCM800, and then I also had a Randy Rhoads signature amp. So before I was playing EVH, I was playing an ODB pedal. I still have my Dunlop Jerry Cantrell wah pedal because I love that.
I’m not gonna ride home in the car. I’ll wait for Randy. I think I’ll get home quicker.
I used to do an impersonation of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage in a romantic relationship.
Randy Moss was a fad. People were looking for some way to vote against Peyton Manning.
I’m so Republican, my first name starts with ‘R.’ I’m so right-wing – well, Randy Weber. You do the math.
The writers that I aspire to, like Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, they’ll tell you that the work gets harder, not easier. And they set that bar for us where we’re always striving to do something better than the last time, whether it’s the next song or just the next line.
When I was growing up, I was a big Ultimate Warrior fan; I liked Macho Man Randy Savage and a lot of other bad dudes.
