Funny you mention my dinner parties when I have just suggested that inviting close friends over to share a meal with candlelight and wine at your table could be a form of religious experience for some people. To me it’s a form of sacrament.
The family meal is really the nursery of democracy. It’s where we learn to share; it’s where we learn to argue without offending. It’s just too critical to let go, as we’ve been so blithely doing.
Whether you’re on a diet, or you’re looking for a go-to one bowl dinner recipe, salads should be thought of as crowd-pleasers, not a dreaded component of a meal.
Children drop out of school because they’re hungry. By providing a meal at school we have seen an increase in attendance.
I think it’s really important to give yourself a very big question that you’re working on that you can come home to, even if you, you know, are going to have to go without a cup of coffee or even a meal, that that should nourish you.
Oh, breakfast is my favorite thing in the world. I always eat a big breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day, and I need energy.
Salad isn’t a meal. Salad’s the stuff that comes with a meal.
Slavery is no more sinful, by the Christian code, than it is sinful to wear a whole coat, while another is in tatters, to eat a better meal than a neighbor, or otherwise to enjoy ease and plenty, while our fellow creatures are suffering and in want.
I’m the happiest at home when I get a visit from my daughter-in-law, BC Jean, and Mark Ballas, my son. They’ll pop round for breakfast or I’ll attempt to cook them a meal. That’s the most special time for me.
The most I ever ate? In one sitting? Maybe four big plates of fried chicken, biscuits, chitlins, gravy. Then dessert. Apple pie, sweet potato pie. My mother cooked that stuff, good Southern food, and when I was 300 pounds, I never missed a meal.
I’m a big breakfast person: Eggs, bacon and yogurt is my go-to meal before a round. On the course, peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches are great for energy, but a protein bar works, too.
I don’t stop eating when I’m full. The meal isn’t over when I’m full. It’s over when I hate myself.
One of the things that helps my vocal health immensely out on the road is stopping all my eating/drinking at least four hours before I go to bed. I actually set a timer after my last meal so I can’t cheat. This is to prevent acid reflux when I lay down in my bunk at night.
It’s no secret – if you know me, have ever met me or have shared a meal with me – that I’m a passionate environmentalist.
Believe it or not, my best meal is to go to the store and buy a DiGiorno pizza, come home, add some fresh Parmesan cheese, and just hang with my family!
I like meat. I never miss it from each meal.
The cornerstone of every Persian meal is rice, or polo.
There is no such thing as the perfect meal; one can always do better.
Stir-fried spring vegetables over miso polenta is the meal equivalent of wanting it so badly to be spring yet recognizing it is 40 degrees outside with a brisk headwind no matter which way you are facing.
Either you came to eat hamburgers and steaks before the game or you came to play. We don’t need any hamburger-eaters, we need players. The guys that really have energy and get excited about the game usually can’t eat pregame meal.
The first time I had sat down to a meal I had grown on my own, along with a bottle of wine that we had made, I burst into tears. To be in touch and be in tune with that is an extraordinary gift.
I knew that no matter what door you knock on in a Cretan village, it will be opened for you. A meal will be served in your honor, and you will sleep between the best sheets in the house. In Crete, the stranger is still the unknown god. Before him, all doors and all hearts are opened.
I can eat any soup, but it just has to have a nice taste. It’s like chocolate – if you eat a dessert at the end of the meal, you want the dessert to be perfect.
I’m a McDonald’s girl – several times a week. Usually the two-cheeseburger combo meal.
I’m a big avocado brother. I love the avocado. So if I can get some avocado in a meal, that’s a big win.
The only meal I have is dinner.
Devising the menu for an intimate meal can be a thorny task. You want to make something your guy will go crazy for, but that usually means big and heavy. And feeling overly full kind of kills the mood.
Every meal I want to start with soup.
I am very fond of sports apparel so I used to visit the mall often and get some good shirts or shoes and even have a nice meal with my physiotherapist.
My kids love old Hollywood movies and look forward to watching the Charlton Heston classic, ‘The Ten Commandments,’ every year. The retro special effects and over-acting are fun to watch and the story is a great reminder of our Jewish roots in the Passover meal.
You’ll get a cheat meal, no question. It’s not a cheat day. Every day, I indulge with something, because if I feel restricted, I’m gonna lash out.
Anytime you get traded, you are trying to figure out what freeways get you where, and where the meal room is, and where the locker room is, and you get yourself used to that.
I worship scones and danishes. If I never had another meal, I wouldn’t care as long as I could eat pastries and jelly doughnuts.
There are many people who are unable to eat even a single meal in a day and it is our responsibility to help in whatever way we can.
I do think, with any beat, it helps to establish a basic level of comfort and cordiality, especially if you plan to ask uncomfortable questions. Sitting down in person for a meal or a coffee can help that.
As a family, we try and do at least one sit-down meal a day.
One meal option is a piece of poached chicken the size of your fist with a green salad sprinkled with lemon juice, carrots, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and celery. Another is a cup and a half of quinoa with minced veggies, all cooked at once so the quinoa absorbs the nutrients.
In the seventies when I was struggling, I ate the same thing every day at Big Nick’s Burger Joint on Broadway and 77th Street. A cottage-cheese omelette with tomatoes, French fries, rye toast, orange juice, and coffee. It was consistently the most satisfying meal I could possibly imagine.
I’m a walkawayer. If someone brings me a really crap meal in a restaurant I will tell them it’s wonderful and then just never go to the restaurant again. I think that’s the best way to do it generally, rather than sit and fight and annoy your head. Just pretend to enjoy it and then leave.
When Marvin and I are on a date night, we keep our phones in our bags. If you’re out for dinner, enjoy it! I find it bizarre that you would pay for an expensive meal to just Snapchat through all of it.
I don’t eat the same meal or at the same time every single day. You get tired of that real quick. I just try to make sure whatever I’m eating is fresh and clean and good for my body. That’s about it.
A delicious meal cooked by a colleague for many others nourishes not only the body but also the soul.
My last meal on Earth? The obvious answer is a plate of my mother’s scrambled eggs.
My kids know there’s no candy, no soda, until the weekend. Those are the days they get to indulge in their sweets. We’re big on organic food. I’m not a diet guy; I don’t believe in diets. I just believe in a great meal plan.
I like drinking wine. Since I travel a lot in the league, I like to sit down with my wife and have a meal and share a glass of wine. We’re exhausted, especially when our kids are acting crazy, but that cheers, that connection, is what wine is for my family and my friends. It’s a part of who we are.
Family is anybody you sit down to a meal with – and very often, after college, your family is your friends or the people you work with.
Every meal is so important and colours the rest of your day – my whole day can go into a spin if I make the wrong choice at lunchtime!
A typical Sunday meal will be brunch at 11 A.M. I’ll probably do muffins, proper scrambled eggs and sweetcorn fritters, which the kids love. Kedgeree’s another thing I like, and if any of the West Indian family are over, definitely ackee and saltfish.
I still think it’s essential for a parent to cook with their children. Weighing out the ingredients and learning where the food comes from is educational, but it also helps to place meal times at the heart of family life. We never had dinner in front of the TV.
I used to have a bit of a thing against starting a meal with soup. I’d find they were often too heavy, filling you up rather than igniting the appetite. Plus, I’d end up mopping it up with scoops of baguette.
Well, I think that when I perform on the road I always thank the audience for buying a ticket because it’s a big deal to buy a ticket for a live entertainment, get a baby-sitter and pay for the meal, the parking, whatever.
I always eat a meal at home before I leave for the airport, so I only eat the soup and salad on the plane.
You want to try to keep your sleep and meal patterns attached to the time zone that you’re in. It’s important so you don’t feel disoriented. If we take a red-eye and land in Singapore at 8 A.M., we’re not going to bed. Force yourself to stay awake, have breakfast, power through the day.
The day leading up to the Royal Rumble was pretty routine. I got up early, went to the gym, got a good meal in and then packed my bags to head to the Alamodome.
