I have to finish this book tour of almost 30 cities.
I’ve always thought that travelling every day as a journalist on the Tour’s got to be harder than actually racing.
‘Grand Royal’ started because we were on the Lollapalooza tour, and we wanted to send this message to people that the mosh pit is corny. Stop doing that. MTV has ruined it, and it’s dangerous, and girls are getting hurt.
On tour, it’s either call ex-boyfriends or tweet a lot. You’re just looking for any proof that you’re not completely alone.
The best compliment I get every year is that a band will write me and say, ‘We were just on tour, and we had people coming to our show saying they had never heard us before they heard us on your show.’

It helps when 1 can send the children off to their fathers so I can support my new book with a national publicity tour. I started writing the book when my daughter was 5. It took me almost four years.
Final pairing on Sunday in a PGA Tour event? If you can’t get up for that, you better find something else to do.
Luckily I don’t have to buy shoes anymore, because I design them! I’m off tour, so I can dive in and create the shoes that I want for my line. But okay, I did buy a pair of vintage combat boots because they were so beaten up – I had to have them.
I’ve studied live shows and artists for so long. I got the tour documentaries and all that and watched them. I love a show. I love an artist that can do all of it.
The other thing that was very noticeable on that tour, not so much in the video, was the new young element that were coming to our shows… I started to see some very young people in the audience… maybe 14, 15, 16 years old.
I feel sometimes like a book tour is a slow series of humiliations and that if you’re strong you’ll come out of it OK.
I’ve gotten to go to the Opry a couple of times and stand backstage and watch. But I made it a point not to take a tour or stand in the circle until music took me there. I told myself that was one place I’d never go unless music took me there.

I started flying because I had a fear of it early on. I figured if I learned to fly, I would understand better what was happening and started taking lessons in the late 1950’s, once I had made some money on tour.
Well, in the sense that we do not tour or record together anymore – then I suppose not. But if our old recordings get heard more we shall be delighted.

The best part about winning the PGA is getting great pairings at tour events. It’s fun to play with Phil Mickelson and other past major champions.
Having been on tour in countries that are extremely eco-friendly, we automatically end up doing the things that normal people do in other countries.
I played with Prince in 2010… the America tour. The one with Misty Copeland dancing on top of the piano! But Prince played the piano on that song. But I played two dates with him on that tour. When we played the gig, every couple of songs, Prince would change his clothes.
As a kid, I watched every Madonna documentary and tour. I was obsessed with her – and with any pop star of the ’80s.
