I was supposed to see Lorde on the ‘Melodrama’ Tour in New York with my best friend, but then I got a callback for ‘Booksmart’ in L.A. and couldn’t make the concert. Thank God I got the part!

We’re on tour to kind of explain why we do what we do, how its done and how we put it together.
Every tour we do, everybody’s always wondering, ‘What’s Tommy Lee going to do next? What new, wild and crazy thing is he going to come up with?’
I went to dinner with my mother-in-law and I just realized I was talking in sound bites to her and expecting her to laugh every time I said anything or be jotting something down in a notebook. So you have to kind of really have a talk with yourself after you’ve done a press tour and say, ‘Chill out!’
I’d been round the world a hundred times and had started to forget where I’d been. I knew I’d been there: it said it on the tour map. I could remember the name of the city but I couldn’t remember what it was like – it was a massive blur.
When I first went on tour with PJ in ’98, I was still in shock having gone through the Soundgarden break up.

On tour, there’s dry shampoo – I use the one by Bed Head.
Since I’m on a tour bus, sometimes it’s really hard for me to wash my face, so I always make sure I have those Neutrogena Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes. No matter what and no matter how long the days are, I always have to wash with those before bed and when I wake up.
You know, like I said, I’m not going to adjust my Senior Tour schedule.

My understanding of this life is that you tour and play for years and years, have some longevity and a steady career. That may sound boring, but I always thought that was less depressing than being a one-hit wonder.
The Tour de France would make a great movie. Drugs, corruption, political chicanery, guys risking their lives – everything you need for a great sports drama.
And I had to take care of a little dog too named Suzy. It was the promoter’s wife’s – Judy Lynn’s – it was her dog. And one of my duties going on the tour was to take care of it.
I used to take ‘Visions of Cody’ by Jack Kerouac on tour all the time. I don’t really love Kerouac, but that book, you could just open at any page and find something incredible for that day.
I often feel that I have a split personality. I love more than anything to be in my study writing, but when it’s time to do a book tour, I love that extroverted part, too – talking to people, reading, traveling, going out into the world.
The 2001 tour to Australia would have been a great highlight in my career if the Lions had won the series. That might sound strange because it was a great tour in many ways, but, for me, the more time goes by, the less of a career highlight it becomes, and just more of a frustration.
The European Tour plays all over the world: from the U.K. to China, from Korea to South Africa, and from the Middle East to southeast Asia.

There are no accomplished golf tour operators in Indonesia, so a golf holiday there is a do-it-yourself operation. But don’t let that deter you.
‘The Practical Heart’ was published one week before the World Trade towers collapsed. Book reviewing and all else in our culture stopped dead-still for half a year. I went on the book tour anyway. But I felt like the apostle Paul going unto the catacombs where scared believers hid and prayed.
I generally mark my ball with a quarter, but sometimes I’ll use a Canadian one-dollar coin. I have a bunch from when I played on the Canadian Tour. I’m not superstitious.
There’s something insane about this business – about the cycle of making albums and going on tour to promote them.
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies and directed by Sundance nominee James Ponsoldt, ‘The End of the Tour’ is a terrific film, among the year’s best with its two-man tarantella of wall-to-wall talk – and I watched it through my fingers as though it were Mad Max.
I’m an avid University of Miami Hurricanes fan. I hope to come to the day where I can still do some stuff for NBC and somehow integrate it with an RV tour of the South for college football. Luckily, my wife, she’s a Florida State alum, so I wouldn’t have to talk her into it. I think our kids would think we’re weird.
I don’t travel anywhere without the PS3 and XBox. There’s nothing better to do on long bus trips while on tour.
I was using a lot of the physios on the tour, which are also very good physios. But it’s just… when you have someone personally for you, obviously, it’s always better, and I can get treatment at home.
On tour, you never have a home, you don’t get used to anything, and you’re always super busy.
The ‘Discovery’ album was quite a successful record but we didn’t tour after that.

I was super-obsessed with the Spice Girls. Ginger was my favorite. They had a tour in 2008, and my home girls went, but I didn’t have the money to go!
For three years, between 16 and 19, I was the opening-act-for-the-opening-act-for-the-opening-act, you know? And then I was on tour with Ice-T, Stetsasonic, EPMD, Sir Mix-a-Lot – legends – and went on to sell 160 million records. It still baffles me.
I’d been touring for so long, seven years. For a year and a half I’d just been curious about what it was like not to tour. It’s like if you were to lift a 100-pound barbell with your right arm for seven years, eventually you’d get really curious about what your left arm was capable of.
