Authenticity is the ability to listen to what nature tells us. Listening isn’t the same thing as never making a mistake, but the important thing is to learn.
At festivals, you can go a lot bigger than a club and have massive euphoric moments because there are so many people there all feeling the same thing.
There are lots of actors who insist on speaking the lines themselves, and you hear the same thing from directors and the audience, but I don’t think it’s worth getting het up about. I think it makes more sense to use someone who speaks that country’s language: that’s what voice actors are for.
I really believed Obama when he spoke in 2008, but I remember watching his victory speech after this last election and it was the same speech. Exactly the same speech. I felt like he didn’t even believe it anymore. He seemed to be tired of saying the same thing.
Standup led me to acting because I liked standup, and I saw people on a stage, and the closest, nearest thing to me was doing plays. It was like, that’s the same thing as standup – people are on a stage; they’re being seen and saying things – so, because of my love of standup, I moved towards acting.
I’ve done a lot of work in my life and have begun to let go of that need to be perfect, and I loved that my character in ‘Moms’ Night Out’ was going through the same thing.
America in its entirety is segregationist and is racist. It’s more camouflaged in the north, but it’s the same thing.
I’ve been watching politics for 35 or 40 years and you just never know. You can have one person win the Iowa caucus and then the whole picture changes ten minutes later. The same thing can happen again after New Hampshire. I have no idea what’s going to happen with our country in the future.
You know, I’ve had blowups with my coach too. The same thing happens, it just wasn’t as evident back then because they didn’t have so many cameras and ways to see things happen.
What I love about photography, and it’s the same thing I love about acting, really, is that it forces you, like, right into the moment, where you can’t be distracted, where you can’t be, like, thinking about other things or ahead of yourself or behind yourself.
Character and fate are two words for the same thing.
You guys are both saying the same thing. The only reason you’re arguing is because you’re using different words.
If you’re at a restaurant and someone asks, ‘Fresh pepper?,’ the answer is yes. When people shake off the fresh pepper, they clearly have no interest in living a full life. Same thing goes for grated Parmesan. Why would you turn that down?
You really, really, really have to love what you are going to do in theater because it is an unmerciful life. It’s six days a week. It’s eight performances a week. And that’s doing the exact same thing over and over and over again.
I want to write, I want to sing. I want to do the same thing for others, have my music, hopefully do that for others one day, not realizing what I sort of had to climb. I had an idea a little bit, but I think that I underestimated the whole thing.
I heard that the same thing occurred in a scene in Alien, where the creature pops out of the chest of a crewman. The other actors didn’t know what was to happen; the director wanted to get true surprise.
But I know I have a son who doesn’t listen to anything I say and if he hears the same thing from someone else, sometimes it has a little more impact.
I get a lot of credit for comb-overs. But it’s not really a comb-over. It’s sort of a little bit forward and back. I’ve combed it the same way for years. Same thing, every time.
Because we are four creative people – four writers – there was no way that we were ever going to be satiated doing the same thing over and again. Change was inevitable for us. And a very natural thing.
I’ve been on the ‘Tonight Show’ a million times, and I’d be embarrassed to do the same thing more than once.
I love science and that time in history when science and the humanities were the same thing.
Prudence is not the same thing as caution. Caution is a helpful strategy when you’re crossing a minefield; it’s a disaster when you’re in a gold rush.
Theater is consistent. You ride your bike to work. You get most of the day off so you can see your kids. My problem is that after three months, I go mad. One of the reasons I never thought I could do a TV show is that I hate doing the same thing over and over again.
Remember, what does ‘retirement’ mean? It doesn’t mean that you’re a couch potato. Leisure is not the same thing as rest. If you’re bicycling five miles a day, that’s leisure, but it certainly takes a lot of effort.
Effective teacher support in my mind is the same thing as effective management. Our teachers need strong management, just like anyone in any profession.
In the last four years, I heard the same thing over and over again from people: ‘We’ve had enough,’ ‘Our country is drifting,’ ‘We’ve lost our way.’
I love work. I love putting together a group of people who are all doing the same thing. The commonality of purpose.
If a dog jumps into your lap, it is because he is fond of you; but if a cat does the same thing, it is because your lap is warmer.
I think it’s hilarious the way Obama is depicted post-presidency. He’s always kayaking or playing jai alai like he’s some retired athlete or something. Like he wasn’t doing the exact same thing everybody else was doing.
When people start asking you to do the same thing over and over again, that’s when you know you’re way too close to something that you don’t want to be near.
My parents are really open-minded, but with their own daughter, it’s not the same thing.
I don’t like most contemporary art. But I think if you talked to any person who’s heavily involved in contemporary art, they’d say the same thing. If you go to a biennale, you don’t expect to like much of it.
In the theatre, because you’re all looking at the same thing in the same space, consciousness is no longer individual. There is a unified consciousness. Until you look and project what is happening, it doesn’t exist; the audience are the ones making the theatre, not the players.
Music knits people together in some strange way. Same thing with food.
I don’t always just want to do the same thing.
There’s so many FM hits that I love. Bob Seger, there’s two of his songs that I love. I would probably love more, but I don’t sit around listening to Bob Seger records. It’s the same thing with Tom Petty; he writes amazing hits, but it’s not often that I sit around at home listening to a whole Tom Petty album.
Would you go into a CD store and steal a CD? It’s the same thing, people going into the computers and loggin’ on and stealing our music.
Sharon went on to play classical but we actually went into totally different instruments which was lucky for the band because otherwise we’d all be playing the same thing!!
California has a beautiful coastline. It can be a rough coastline. The waves are huge. The rocks are steep. Same thing in Vancouver. It has a beautiful coastline. It’s dramatic.
The world is such a big place, and there’s so much that goes on, but a lot of the media really just cover the same thing over and over again.
I can’t do the same thing every night, the same gestures… it’s like putting on dirty panties every day.
My job is to notice echoes and notice resonances. Scientists are not supposed to do the same thing that cultural critics do.
It’s not the same thing to make a work – a film, a book, a play – about youth as it is to make one about old age.
I love stories. But I don’t distinguish so much between a short story and a novel. Personally, when I sit down to read a novel or a Chekhov story, I’m seeking the same thing: I’m seeking that same rich portrayal of life in words.
I think it’s a pity that in many people’s minds constitutional reform and PR have come to mean much the same thing.
You know, people understand fear and opportunity. It may look different, but it’s really the same thing.
I come from a heavy-lidded people. My family, you’ll see pictures of them, and it’s the same thing all the way back to Scotland.
And I’ve always said, ‘If two people think the same thing about everything, one of them isn’t necessary.’ We need to be able to understand that if we’re going to make real progress.
Same thing, like my commercials are often times really funny because I tend to find 30 seconds is a really good amount of time to tell a joke.
Comedy is such a personal thing. Everybody can cry at the same thing, but it’s a lot harder to get everyone to laugh at the same thing.
I’ve done the same thing in the world of business that winners do in the game. I watch them, admire them.
I try not to do it in a way that is hurtful, but I always tell him the truth, and he tells me the same thing. I trust him the most, and I know he trusts me the most.
